CV proves offensive strength

Chenango Valley Warriors: 10
Vestal Golden Bears: 2

With the exception of a Mike Biviano walk, Chenango Valley did not get a runner on base in the third, fourth, fifth, or sixth inning. Good thing the first, second and seventh innings were an offensive show for the Warriors.

Going into this game against Vestal, Chenango Valley was undefeated. It was a big game against a potential contender for the STAC Metro crown. Chenango Valley beat Vestal 10-2 Thursday night.

The offensive barrage started innocently enough in the first with a Biviano walk, a Derek Stupski walk, and a Brain Stinson hit-by-pitch to load the bases for Derek Ferry. Ferry lined out to center field, tagging was Biviano to score CV’s first run. The next batter, Dan Pendleton drew a walk to load the bases for designated hitter Kyle Christoffersen. Christoffersen smoked a two-RBI double to right-center to make it a 3-0 lead for Chenango Valley.

Vestal would score in the bottom of the inning on a tip error off shortstop Eric Bidwell’s glove to score a run. In the second, Biviano drew a walk to start things off, followed by a single by Bidwell. Stupski hit a two-RBI double followed by a RBI-double from Brian Stinson to give the Warriors a 6-1 lead. After a base-hit from Pendleton and a Christoffersen walk, the bases were loaded for senior Vince Palmieri who flied out to short to end the inning.

What followed was a four-inning span of three-up-three-down for Chenango Valley until the seventh inning when Chenango Valley broke the game open. Starting off the inning were walks by Stupski and Stinson, and a single by Ferry to load the bases. Pendleton came to the plate and hit a two-RBI ground rule double to right-center, followed by Christoffersen batting in Ferry and Pendleton on a single. This made it 10-1 Chenango Valley. Vestal would score once in the bottom of the inning, but did not have enough gas to compete with the red-hot CV offense.

Although the Warrior offense shined, it was starting pitcher Brian Eggleston that deserves a solid ‘W’ for his performance tonight. In 6.2 innings, he allowed only three hits, one earned run, and struck out six. Stupski came in to get the last out of the game in relief.

Chenango Valley (7-0) faces a tough Oneonta team this Saturday, 10 a.m. at Chenango Valley High School.

Chenango Valley Warriors: 3
Harpursville Hornets: 2

After crushing (NYSPHAA) Class ‘A’ Owego yesterday 14-0, the Class ‘B’ Chenango Valley Warriors varsity baseball team screeched out a 3-2 victory over the Class ‘D’ Harpursville Hornets Wednesday morning at Chenango Valley High School.
The Warriors (6-0) trailed 2-0 going into the fifth-inning when their bats seemed to heat up. After back-to-back singles by juniors Kyle Christoffersen and Justin Topa, senior Vince Palmieri advanced the runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Brian Eggleston smashed a single to left, driving in Chrisoffersen and Topa to tie the score 2-2.
Senior Derek Stupski led off in the bottom of the sixth with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and then to third on junior Brian Stinson’s sacrifice fly. Harpursville brought the infield in, and lefty senior Derek Ferry ripped a single to right, scoring Stupski. It ended up being the winning run for Chenango Valley.
Topa took over on the hill for the CV starter Taylor Howard in the second inning and pitched until the sixth, allowing one run, getting the win and improving to 2-0 on the season. Stupski then sealed the deal for the Warriors, pitching the seventh and getting the save.
Undefeated Chenango Valley faces Vestal tomorrow, 4p.m. at Vestal.

The varsity baseball season finally arrived, and the Warriors are looking at a fantastic start. After a trio of CV pitchers (Dan Pendleton, Derek Stupski, Eric Bidwell) no-hit STAC Metro favorite Binghamton in a 5-0 victory, today they one-hit Norwich with the help of Brian Eggleston in place of Pendleton. One member of the varsity squad told The Warrior Report that he would surely go yard in the game. He did. Brian Stinson hit a monstrous two-run homer in the 3rd inning that was measured as 430 ft. Adding to the score was a three-run home-run by Derek Stupski in the bottom of the 6th - Norwich never saw it coming. Next up for the Warriors (2-0) is at Whitney Point tomorrow. Look for big things to come from a team that has hit three home-runs in two games (Mike Biviano, Stinson, Stupski).
