CV blow-out, Bobal shines

Chenango Valley Warriors: 80

Sidney Warriors: 31

With 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists, Matt Bobal lead the Chenango Valley Warriors boys’ varsity basketball team to a huge 80-31 victory over the Sidney Warriors. The 1-0 Warriors never trailed in the game, sparked by two Matt Mullins’ 3-pointers very early in the first. Mullins and the other guards calmed down as the big men in the paint – Matt Bobal (17 points), Mike Ball (10 points), Tommy Hull (15 points) – took over, averaging 11.3 rebounds in the game. With layups and foul shots, Bobal, Ball and Hull combined for 42 points and 50% from the line. Chenango Valley takes on the Windsor Black Knights this Friday at Windsor High School.

CV girls’ fall short

Chenango Valley Warriors: 53
Union-Endicott Tigers: 58

The Chenango Valley girls’ varsity basketball team lost to the Union-Endicott Tigers 53-58 Friday night. It was CV’s home and season opener for the 2007-2008 year. The Warriors trailed the whole game, mostly due to (Saint Rose bound) Adrianna Gaeta’s numerous 3-pointers in the first half to set up an early U-E lead, 29-23. However, CV’s defense tightened up, and their offense took over in the paint in the second half. Demetra Kermidas took things into her own hands finishing 7/8 with 15 points and leading CV in rebounds. The Warriors fought back in the fourth quarter gaining points on steals and turnovers. Leading scorers for Chenango Valley were: Demetra Kermidas – 15, Stephanie Hoffman – 15, Cait Roberts – 9. The Warriors host the Windsor Black Knights this Friday in the House of Rock.

School Spirit

Chenango Valley lost to Chenango Forks. There’s really no other way to put it. However, if you forget about the rivalry, the dynasty and the championship game, you have something left: school spirit. The craziness that Chenango Valley High School experienced during the week of “Valley vs. Forks II, The Rematch” (as it is being called) was unprecedented and was the single greatest week of togetherness, spirit and fun for CV that I have ever seen. I can’t speak for Chenango Forks, but I would say that in a contest for student support of a football team, we won hands down. Everyone felt as though they were taking the football field under those lights Friday night. Everyone believed that on that chilly November night their team, their Warriors, would battle for a victory. In my eyes, everyone was right. That game was a big victory for Chenango Valley, not in the score but in bringing us together. We didn’t care that CF had demolished 60 straight teams from our division, won six straight sectional championships, and beat us earlier this season. All we cared about was that we were there, with everyone around us in a sea of red shouting “Red! Gray! Let’s Go Warriors All the Way!” pounding their feet and clapping their hands. Even if we knew we would lose, we would still show up and support. That’s what Warriors do, they Refuse to Lose.

And as always…GO WARRIORS!

Forks wins. :'(

Chenango Forks Blue Devils (10-0) – 21
Chenango Valley Warriors (8-2) – 7

Intercepting 5 passes, the Chenango Forks Blue Devils won the Section 4 Class B varsity fooball final against the Chenango Valley Warriors. The Warriors end their season with a 8-2 record, both losses coming from Chenango Forks. The Warriors only score was on a Matt Fedish punt return in the 4th quarter. This is the 14th game in a row that CF as beat CV. The last time the Warriors won over Forks was in 1994.

More highlights to come.
