Chenango Valley Warriors: 49
Lansing Bobcats: 46

Chenango Valley Warriors Section 4 Class B Champions!

This might have been one of the all-time weirdest games in modern Chenango Valley history. But we won. The Chenango Valley Warriors varsity boys’ basketball team beat the Lansing Bobcats 49-46 in the Section 4 Class B Championship Friday night at the Arena. With the CV 6th Man cheering loudly, the Warriors excitingly captured a come-from behind win to seal the deal and claim the trophy. A game that was expected to be a battle of big guns, Lansing’s Teagan Barresi (averaging 22.2 PPG) and CV’s Matt Mullins (averaging 18.6 PPG), saw both players have average nights. Barresi shot 3-10 from the field scoring a season low 7 and Mullins scored 13 on a 5-17 night. Mullins was CV’s highest scorer and played good defense, but big Matt Bobal had 12 points and dominated the boards all night. Chenango Valley’s defense was key all night, shutting down Barresi and getting steals when they needed them. The highlight of the night, and possibly of the season, happened minutes before the end of the half. Tied at 23-23, Eric Bidwell inbounded a pass to Mullins, who looked to put up a 30-foot shot to end the half, but it was too low to be a shot. It was in fact a perfect pass to a leaping Mike Ball who tipped it in at the buzzer to give CV a 25-23 lead. Video highlights of a crazy second half to come. Chenango Valley has won 15 of their last 16 games. Next weekend the Warriors head to SUNY Cortland to start the intrastate tournament against the Hannibal Warriors from Section 3 on March 8th, 1 p.m.
