Chenango Valley Warriors: 3
Harpursville Hornets: 2

After crushing (NYSPHAA) Class ‘A’ Owego yesterday 14-0, the Class ‘B’ Chenango Valley Warriors varsity baseball team screeched out a 3-2 victory over the Class ‘D’ Harpursville Hornets Wednesday morning at Chenango Valley High School.
The Warriors (6-0) trailed 2-0 going into the fifth-inning when their bats seemed to heat up. After back-to-back singles by juniors Kyle Christoffersen and Justin Topa, senior Vince Palmieri advanced the runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Brian Eggleston smashed a single to left, driving in Chrisoffersen and Topa to tie the score 2-2.
Senior Derek Stupski led off in the bottom of the sixth with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and then to third on junior Brian Stinson’s sacrifice fly. Harpursville brought the infield in, and lefty senior Derek Ferry ripped a single to right, scoring Stupski. It ended up being the winning run for Chenango Valley.
Topa took over on the hill for the CV starter Taylor Howard in the second inning and pitched until the sixth, allowing one run, getting the win and improving to 2-0 on the season. Stupski then sealed the deal for the Warriors, pitching the seventh and getting the save.
Undefeated Chenango Valley faces Vestal tomorrow, 4p.m. at Vestal.
