Seton Catholic Central Saints: 78
Chenango Valley Warriors: 56
The Chenango Valley Warriors varsity boys’ basketball team lost to the Seton Catholic Central Saints 78-56 Tuesday night at Seton Catholic Central High School, snapping a seven game winning streak in the process. With the help of Chris Furner with 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Matt Meier with 25 points (17 in the first half), the Saints toppled the Warriors, who were being called the “hottest team in STAC.” Seton coach Chris Sinicki told the Press & Sun-Bulletin that the key to the Seton victory was guarding CV’s senior Matt Mullins. “He had to work hard for everything he had,” Sinicki said. Although Mullins scored a team-high 21 points, he seemed to have trouble driving the lane the whole night again a tough Seton defense. In the paint, Chenango Valley could not seem to match Furner’s rebounding ability as possessions came and went. Fouls were a big problem for CV as well, putting Seton in the bonus in the first quarter. This loss keeps Chenango Valley in third place in STAC East, below Windsor (11-2) and Seton Catholic Central (10-3).
